As what was first mentioned, bacteria are single-celled microorganisms that live almost everywhere. It can be airborne or can thrive in water, soil, in humans, and animals. Now, the word bacteria have a negative connotation. However, it actually performs many essential functions for the environment and organisms.

For instance, bacteria are needed for plants and soil in order to grow. Bacteria actually has a vast majority that is harmless to people, and some strains are even beneficial. Another example would be the bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract of humans wherein good bacteria helps in digestion and produces vitamins.

Enough with the basics in bacteria let us now know the bacterial infection that everyone fears. So, what is a bacterial infection? Well, technically speaking, a bacterial infection is the proliferation of harmful strains of bacteria which can infect any area of the body.

Diseases like pneumonia, meningitis, and food poisoning are just one of the many illnesses that may be due to harmful bacteria. With this said, bacteria come in three different basic shapes, such as rod-shaped (bacilli), spherical (cocci), or helical (spirilla).

Additionally, bacteria can be classified into two: gram-positive or gram-negative. The gram-positive bacteria have a thick cell wall while the gram-negative is of the opposite. The gram staining is determined with the bacterial culture that is sensitive to antibiotics, with other tests will be used to identify bacterial strains, which would aid in determining the appropriate course of treatment.

The medicine spectracef is a medication taken by mouth as instructed by your doctor and is usually taken twice daily (every 12 hours) with a meal. Now, to gain its best efficacy, then you should take this antibiotic at an evenly spaced time. If you tend to forget, then it would be helpful if you take the medication at the same time every day.

Additionally, you need to continue using this medication until the full prescribed amount is done. Even if the symptoms disappear after a few days and you feel fine. You need to follow the course since stopping the medication too early might result in returning of the infection.

Lastly, this medication is not recommended for longer use or over some several months since the side effects risks increases. Thus, you need to have an appointment with your doctor to know whether you need to take more doses or not.

Like any other medicine, spectracef has its side effects too. This includes headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, which might be experienced by the patient taking this medication. Now, if any of these effects last longer or gets worse, then immediately tell your doctor about the situation.

Also, although having a severe side effect from taking this medicine is rare, you should tell your doctor immediately if you are experiencing easy bleeding, bruising, unusual fatigue, mental/mood changes, seizures, loss of appetite, stomach pain, signs of kidney problems, and signs of low blood sugar.

Now, if you are worried or anxious about the said side effects, then please remember that the doctor has prescribed you this medication because he or she has judged well that the benefit that you may gain from taking this drug is greater than the said risk of side effects.

Not to mention that there haven’t been any reports in regards to an individual having serious side effects after using the medicine.

Before taking this medication, make sure that you have asked or that you are cleared off from having an allergy due to this medicine. In case that you do have an allergy towards the said drug, then tell your doctor immediately.

In addition, you should tell your doctor or healthcare provider about your medical history, especially of kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, and metabolic disorder.

Also, this medicine may cause live bacterial vaccines not to work.  You should not have any vaccinations or immunizations while using this medication unless your doctor told you to do so.
